With the launch of our foreign business support services earlier this spring, a shared office space for entrepreneurs has also been launched.\u00a0 Eager to continue implementing improvements to better cater to the needs and desires of foreign startup owners in Japan, staff at FREA have examined such spaces in Silicon Valley, where the concept of coworking originated as a response to the startup environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

With each entrepreneur or small-business-owner having widely varied needs, we felt that \u201cbest\u201d would not be an appropriate descriptor, however each of the following locations is highly rated and have numerous services to offer\u2014read on for our list of coworking spaces in the SF Bay area that we felt stood out for one reason or another.<\/span><\/p>\n

PART 1: San Francisco<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Bespoke (SF)<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Housed right inside the Westfield San Francisco Centre in Union Square, Bespoke stands out as a retail-focused and fashion-oriented resource amongst the many more purely tech-focused shared offices.\u00a0 Demo stations for feedback and engaging potential audiences are available both inside the working space and throughout the massive shopping mall, which draws over 20 million visitors each year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Going beyond generic office spaces, Bespoke even offers a \u201cnap room\u201d with beds for members to recharge during the day, as well as an indoor rock-climbing wall for a change of pace.\u00a0 The unlimited supply of quality local coffee also seems to be an appreciated perk.<\/span><\/p>\n

This coworking space is housed in a large downtown building with an open-to-public caf\u00e9 area and tiered pricing options ranging from pay-per-hour to monthly memberships including private office rooms. \u00a0Covo\u2019s greatest strength perhaps lies in its staggering range of amenities offered for a comfortable environment promoting work-life balance\u2014a few examples are both a caf\u00e9 and tap room area, a bicycle room, dry cleaning services, and the pet-friendly nature of the building.<\/span><\/p>\n

For entrepreneurs working remotely, they also offer \u201cvirtual office\u201d memberships providing a business address.\u00a0 All membership tiers include a portion of meeting room credits, and access to community happenings\u2014Canopy frequently hosts industry speakers, themed discussions and other events.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike most other shared office spaces, Galvanize is also a campus building which offers a variety of tech courses for individuals seeking to either improve their existing skills or a begin a new career in the tech industry.\u00a0 The five-story building offers a wide variety of seating including private offices and an open-to-the-public caf\u00e9 area, and also hosts frequent tech meetups during evenings, creating valuable networking opportunities for entrepreneurs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Designed to be drastically different from traditional workspaces, Galvanize contains multiple micro-kitchens (with refrigerators) for refreshments throughout its floors, which have large amounts of natural light and are furnished with varying themes. \u00a0Visitors praise the \u201cenergizing\u201d environment that promotes productivity and the inspiring rooftop view from the 5th<\/sup> floor of the bustling city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Like the other coworking spaces we have spotlighted Sandbox Suites offers a variety of pricing options to suit each entrepreneurs budget and sizing needs.\u00a0 Most notably, they are one of the only coworking spaces in the area to actively reach out to foreign entrepreneurs\u2014Sandbox Suites offers support in obtaining the applicable business visa as well as securing necessary office space.<\/span><\/p>\n

HanaHaus (Palo Alto)<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Previously featured on our Facebook page, HanaHaus is a unique shared office space in a historical theater building located in downtown Palo Alto, where a large number of venture capital investment firms are based.\u00a0 Multiple private and semi-private meeting rooms are available for reservation, with innovative features like writeable wall surfaces,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pricing options are also impressively affordable and flexible, with a membership-free, pay-per-hour system and additional open seating areas by the attached caf\u00e9. Like many other highly rated workspaces, HanaHaus frequently hosts outside events in evenings and features a popular local coffee chain (in this case Blue Bottle).<\/span><\/p>\n

SPACES is a coworking space company originating in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.\u00a0 The San Jose location features modern styling and a variety of open and private offices, with 24-hour access for members.\u00a0 The office itself is located in Santana Row, an upscale shopping and dining neighborhood directly adjacent to the massive Westfield Valley Fair mall.\u00a0 With close proximity to 3 freeways and multiple public transportation lines, SPACES Santana Row also boasts excellent accessibility.<\/span><\/p>\n

Members praised the refreshing interior feel and community-building atmosphere, as well as the SPACES staff who offer attentive and personalized service,<\/span><\/p>\n

While each of the spaces highlighted have their own finer distinguishing points, it isn\u2019t too difficulty to see what makes them all appealing.\u00a0 Flexibility in service options and space usage, convenient access to quality refreshments, a mindfully-selected location and attentive and knowledgeable staff seem to be a few of the key aspects contributing to the success of the coworking spaces listed above.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
